Atoll professionals only.
If you have not mastered your basic aquarium chemistry, nitrate and ammonia dosing is not for you. Get the basics mastered first please.
Why would I want to dose ammonia.
Coral Studies show that ammonia is more readily absorbed and utilized by corals compared to nitrates, requiring less energy for assimilation as ammonia must undergo one process while nitrate must undergo two to be used. Basically its easier for corals to use ammonia than it is for them to use nitrates.
What does that mean for your tank?
Increase polyp extension
Increased growth rates

Ron:
Tank size: 110g
Starting nitrates 2.5ppm
Starting Dosage: 1ml (1ml/gallon)
Increased to 1 ml x 3 times a day during the photo period
Nitrates at day 19: 17ppm and they held there for 7-10 days. Massive increase in color and polyp extension. Nitrates stared dropping, increased rates of calcium and alk consumption as the corals hit a growth spurt after a couple weeks.
Dosage after 8 weeks: 15ml daily divided into 4 doses during peak photo period (1-4pm); nitrates are fluctuating at 4 to 6 ppm
